The Flame of the Forest

Botanically called Butea monosperma and commonly called Palash, these flowering trees are found in the tropical and sub-tropical parts of Indian subcontinent. I happened to have come across them in the Gir National Forest during my wildlife safari. When strewn on the forest floor during dry summers their color stands out like a forest fire, hence the name 'flame of the forest'.
